What an honor to spend Earth Day at The Center in Palos Park, a place “of celebration, enrichment, and healing—meeting others who shared a love for trees. Thank you to Lois Lauer for the invitation to introduce the Treewhispers project, to Marilyn VandenBout for her expertise in paper-making and to all those who so graciously shared their time and their stories. Stay tuned to see how you too can get involved with The Center’s partnership with Treewhispers.

Dear Pam, You were so wonderfully inspiring at the luncheon program on the 22nd. We have been continuing to make and collect paper circles and have several plans for continuing. We’ll make paper at 2 events coming up:
This Sunday, May 25, 1-3 p.m., we are having a Little Art Show of tiny artworks and will give guests an opportunity to make tiny circles (hope that’s okay with you–you seem open to any size, so I figure this will be the sapling of your collection!)
On Saturday, June 7, 10 am – 4 pm, we plan to have a papermaking table set up at our annual Farm Fest and encourage folks to make paper circles and write/draw on them to add to the project. There’s a lot going on that day (horses, music, hayrides, flea market vendors, tours of the barn, etc.) so I know not everyone will make paper, but I think there’s a good chance for several hundred circles to get added to the project!
We also have a display in the art center and on the lodge front porch inviting people to participate, using circles of already-created handmade paper.
As a staff, we will make paper and write on the circles at our summer staff picnic on June 10.
Our summer campers, summer preschoolers, and spring and summer kids’ art students will all make paper and add their circles to the project.
I’m confident that we will have at least 500 circles by the end of the summer!
Thank you so much for your creativity and generosity in sharing your vision of Treewhispers with The Center.
Hugs and trees, Lois Lauer
